Whitebait

Title: Whitebait
Author: Corey Taylor
Pocket Book No 3

Whitebait is part science-fiction, part dystopian family drama.

“Why do we have to be poor?” Lisa thought, trudging, disconsolate behind her father.

“It’s just so humiliating…why can’t it be a practical joke? Why can’t Conrad suddenly emerge from the bush and take me?”

In what’s becoming a Firestarter tradition, (if traditions can form after three publications) the cover tells a story at odds with the title…until you read the book.

River stinks, too. All sorts of strange gooey shit flowing in and growing in it nowadays. No wonder there’s hardly anything left. Cody’d had to leave Trigger at home this year too, after what had happened to Duke last year further up the coast.

Poor mutt.

They clunked around a bend in the river and the bridge out of town came into view.

That’s a real Kiwi image, thought Cody. Shingle river, bridge, ranges in the background. Just needs a hawk to fly over.

About the Author

Whilst now calling Palmerston North home, Corey was born and raised in Ongaonga, and is of Ngāpuhi and Scottish descent. In former lives he has been – amongst other things – a shed hand, an editor, and (for over a decade, no less) a polyethylene geomembrane installation technician. Thankfully, he is now a bookseller and a dad.
