At the time I wasn’t sure why I bolted.

I think I might know now because I have had sessions with this chick, Tara, who fixes my writing and we talk about other stuff like thinking.

I don’t tell her all my thoughts though I wouldn’t mind.

Anyway I didn’t get bail.

The duty lawyer said I wouldn’t and she was right.

About the Author

Of German and Irish descent, Mike was born in 1941 in Lower Hutt where he went to school. He studied law at Otago University. He worked as a defence lawyer in Palmerston North before becoming a Queen’s Counsel and eventually a District Court Judge and a Parole Board Judge.

In the 1980s he worked on the subs bench at the Manawatu [sic] Evening Standard where he also did a bit of court, sport
and general reporting.

People often ask Mike when is he going to write his memoir? His reply is usually something along the lines of: “If I did that I would have to tell the truth.”

At the time of publication Mike was writing his memoirs in the form of poetry and prose.
